Best Family Beaches Around the World
Fire Island National Seashore, Long Island, New York
by: Victoria of Tori Leigh
Fire Island National Seashore is one of the world’s best beaches for children and families. With twenty six miles of protected coastline, wildlife, and nearby attractions. Fire Island’s beaches make the perfect family beach escape.
Fire Island is a barrier beach off the coast of Long Island, New York, with exceptional views of both the Great South Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Because the beach is a National Shoreline, much of the authentic Long Island dunes are intact and the wildlife among them protected. In addition to spending time playing and lounging on the coast. Visitors can actually witness the wild side of the island beach at Otis Pike Fire Island High Dune Wilderness or walk through Sunken Forest, a true maritime forest right on the beach.
Fire Island is also locally famous for its iconic lighthouse. Simply walk the stroller friendly boardwalk path above the sand dunes to the structure. Children will love the small museum on the first few floors, teaching about the local maritime history and Long Island landscape. In fact, it’s one of the best things to do on Long Island with kids. Of course the views from the top are exceptional. Lighthouse beach is just footsteps away, as well.
For families looking for more than a day trip. Fire Island is home to numerous beach communities, such as Ocean Beach. These small towns are accessible only by ferry and do not allow vehicles. Discover restaurants with sunset views, a marina. And of course miles of accessible beach. Visitors can rent everything from homes to bicycles to tour the long stretch of coastline.
If you’re in search of a beautiful shoreline, with a diverse landscape and plenty of amenities, Fire Island National Seashore has it all.
Kapalua Bay, Maui, HI
by: Keri of Bon Voyage With Kids
One of the best beaches in the world for families, and a favorite of ours, is Kapalua Bay Beach on the island of Maui in Hawaii. What makes it ideal is that it is a cove-like beach on a protected bay with a shallow reef. Absolutely beautiful clear water, with the gorgeous views of Molokai, Kapalua Bay Beach typically offers calm waters where adults and kids can swim and enjoy the wonders of the sea life that live close to shore.
Our family loves to snorkel here. And being shallow with reefs and sea life close to shore, makes it easy for even kids to snorkel. My family loves seeing the famous humuhumunukunukuapua’a fish, Hawaii’s state fish. And tropical reef fish near shore. My kids have also spotted eels and assorted coral, as well as the resident turtle who lives in Kapalua Bay. Take note that it is against Hawaiian law to go within 10 feet of sea turtles.
You will need to bring your own snorkel gear. But there is a stand on site that rents floaties if you need them. The beach is also perfectly suited for spending a day sunning and sandcastle building,.Though you will want to bring your own food, water, towels, and beach accessories.. One of the family-friendly features are the restrooms and foot showers at the beach.
One of the best times to visit Kapalua Bay Beach is during the summer months. Although there can be currents in all of Maui’s waters at all times of the year, the summer months have calmer shores and smaller waves.
Visiting Kapalua Bay Beach is free and parking is available for a small fee. But the lot fills up quickly. Our family recommends getting to Kapalua Bay early for the best options for parking, though the tennis club across the street sometimes offers parking for a fee. A visit to Kapalua Bay is definitely one of the best things to do on Maui with kids. And one of the best beaches in the world for families.
JBR Beach, Dubai
by: Yukti of Travel With me 247
A bustling beach with vibrant vibes in the heart of Dubai’s modern life makes a perfect idyllic getaway with the family. And a perfect blend of beach activities with a fusion of Arabic flavors makes it a favorite destination for families. A beach with white sands, clear waters, sunshine, view of iconic Dubai skyline. And many beach shacks always attracts families from around the world. Not only this beach in Dubai has an amazing food scene. But also offers many activities like came ride, beach games, special play area for kids, Open gym, events, festivals, adventure sports. As Dubai has a hot climate for approximately 5 to 6 months. So, it is better to visit this beach from October to March. Weather in winters is perfect for water sports and idling out.
And the most amazing thing about this beach is that it has free access and well connected by public transport. Not only days are beautiful here, spending evenings with the beautiful sunset or romantic dinner at beach shacks are an amazing thing to do here. Throughout the day, you will find numerous activities or performers at JBR beach in winter. There are many 5-star beach resorts, hotels and service apartments with a view of the beach and all facilities here. So it is difficult to say which one is better. Because as per me, there is a view of the beach in every hotel. And all of them provide equivalent facilities. So the better deal you crack, book that hotel. If you are visiting Dubai, I always recommend staying at JBR beach because it has a combination of family beach in the day and a perfect nightlife for couples in the evening. Shopping of handicrafts and beach styled things also is great here at those tiny beachside wooden kiosks.

Torre dell’Orso, Puglia, Italy
by: Maria & Katerina of It’s All Trip To Me
The gorgeous region of Puglia in Southern Italy is home to some of the most stunning beaches in the country. With crystal clear waters that are impossible to resist. And one of the most amazing Puglia beaches is Torre dell’Orso. Which also happens to be among the most popular beaches in Italy. Although it’s very easy to get to Torre dell’Orso from many locations across Puglia. But most travellers visit the beach from either Lecce or Otranto. As, the beach is less than an hour’s drive or bus ride from either.
Torre dell’Orso features the most enchanting stretches of white sand that go on for almost 1km. While the sea boasts a unique turquoise colour. During the summer months, there are sunbeds and umbrellas available for a fee.
Late spring, summer and early autumn are the ideal times to visit Torre dell’Orso. So as to be able to enjoy a swim there. However, if you’re visiting Puglia in winter, Torre dell’Orso is still worth a visit. Because it’s the ideal place to enjoy a beachside walk like no other.
At the southern end of the beach, the Two Sisters, these dramatic rocks in the middle of the sea, have a very sad story to tell. Legend has it that two sisters had been swimming in the sea when they realised that they wouldn’t make it to shore. So, by divine intervention, they were turned into the two impressive rocks that adorn the sea to this day.
We visited Torre dell’Orso in April and we enjoyed the time we spent there immensely. Although it was rather cold for us to swim, the fact that we had the beach almost all to ourselves meant that we enjoyed a stroll along the coastline that we will never forget. And this is priceless. That is why it is amongst the best beaches around the world on our list.
Semaphore Beach – Adelaide, South Australia
by: Natalie & Steve of Curious Campers
Semaphore Beach is less than half an hour from South Australia’s capital city Adelaide. While Adelaide’s coastline has a couple of dozen beaches, Semaphore Beach is the top pick for families.
First, there is the beach. There is plenty of white sand and sparkling blue water to play in. Next, Semaphore isn’t a surf beach. So, it is a relatively safe place for small children to play in the water. Moreover, the long, wide jetty is great for sitting under on a hot day and a great place for watching the sunset.
As well as the beach, it is all the other things you can do at Semaphore that have made it a family favourite . For instance, right behind the dunes there is everything from playgrounds, BBQs and picnic facilities to waterslides and mini golf. And there is even a miniature steam train ride along the Esplanade which kids will love! Big grassed reserves run parallel to the beach. And these have skateparks, basketball courts and bike tracks. As our kids got older, they spent plenty of time riding around here. The reserves also host several annual festivals. If you are in the area over Easter, the Kite Festival is spectacular and not to be missed.
On the esplanade and right across the road from the beach are several historical monuments. An old cannon and the Time Ball Tower are always popular things for children to explore.
Adelaide has long, hot summers so anytime between November and April is a great time to visit. However, the vibe is always friendly and relaxed. Also, there is plenty of parking and there are lots of kiosks and cafés if you want to grab a snack. It will only take one visit to Semaphore to see why it is such a great family destination! Overall, definitely it makes for one of the best beaches around the world.
Diamond Beach, Iceland
by: Suzanne of Meandering Wild
The Diamond Beach is known locally as Breiðamerkursandur and is located 360km east of Reykjavík on the main Ring Road 1. This is about 5 hours of driving without stops, but is worth every minute. The nearest town if Höfn which is about 60km further east. Even in the middle of summer this beach is worth visiting and although it is much colder in the winter months this is when it can look its best.
The beach is adjacent to a small river that connects the Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon with the sea. The lagoon is full of huge icebergs that have broken away from the glacier and flowed out to sea. These get washed onto the beach where they form an amazing sight. They are a range of colours from clear to a deep turquoise. Some have lines of black ash and others have been smoothed by the action of the waves. Against the black of the volcanic ash on the beach they glisten even on the greyest of days.
While this beach isn’t tropical and you will more than likely need multiple layers even in the summer it is so unique that you quickly forget the cold. The beach can be busy but walking away from the car park and distancing yourself from other people is easy to achieve and will give you a chance to watch the ice being washed onto the beach in your own space. Sitting on this beach watching the icebergs float past and get washed onto the beach as sea birds soared in the air and seals fish was a family experience that we all enjoyed and will remember.

Why Iceland is a must visit destination
Robin Hood’s Bay, UK
by: Sinead of Best In York Guide
One of the best beaches for families with kids is Robin Hoods Bay, a long, beautiful stretch of sandy beach located on the windswept North Yorkshire coastline in northern England. The family friendly beach can be reached by car in one hour from the city of York or by public bus from York or nearby Whitby. The beach lies on the edge of a small, quaint fishing village bearing the same name. The historic Robin Hoods Bay village is a maze of cobbled lanes and old cottages and is – uniquely – a car free location. This car free access to the beach deters many sun seeking visitors so it is not difficult to find a quiet, isolated spot on the beach, even in peak summer season. Robin Hoods Bay beach has several rock pools to delight inquisitive children but it also lies on Yorkshire Jurassic coast allowing visitors to the chance to hunt for fossils.
The beach is littered with easy to spot fossils such as ammonites, belemnites and Devils Toe Nails. The free to enter Coastguard Station explains the fascinating geology of the beach. Hikers will enjoy the North Yorkshire Coastal Path – part of the greater Cleveland Way Trail – which runs through Robin Hoods Bay offering spectacular views of the surrounding dramatic coastline. Robin Hoods Bay is wonderful to visit at any time of year. Temperatures never reach uncomfortable figures in summer and it is glorious to soak up the summer sun on the quiet, expansive beach. Alternatively, blow away cooped up cobwebs with a stroll on the beach on a moody, windy winters day. Keen fossil hunters should aim to visit Robin Hoods Bay after a storm.
Junkanoo Beach, Nassau, Bahamas
by: Jenni Fielding of Cruise Mummy
One of our favourite beaches we’ve ever visited with the kids is Junkanoo Beach in Nassau, Bahamas. Because, we love to cruise. And if our ships calls at Nassau (as many Caribbean and Bahamas cruises do). Then you can bet that we’ll be heading straight to Junkanoo Beach for the day. We love to visit Junkanoo Beach on a cruise. But those vacationing in Nassau should definitely check it out too. There are always ships in port. Still, this beach is large enough not to get too crowded.
One of the best things about Junkanoo Beach is that you can watch the cruise ships as they arrive and depart. And it’s such as strange feeling being in the water with a huge ship! Also, this beach has soft white sand, crystal clear turquoise water and palm trees to provide the perfect combination of sunshine and shade.
Junkanoo Beach is located just a short walk from Nassau cruise port. You just turn right out of the cruise terminal and follow the coast. Past Senor Frogs to reach the beach. Once there, walk a little further down the shore for the best and least-crowded spots. The Bahamas is a fantastic place to visit all year round. The temperature ranges from 70 to 78°F in winter to 80 to 85°F in the summer, making every day a beach day. The water temperature is between 72 and 83°F so it’s always inviting to take a dip.
Inch Beach Ireland
by: Nils of Lets go Ireland
The beaches of Ireland are famous for their stunning beauty and high water quality. Inch beach in County Kerry is one such Blue Flag beach, that has lots to offer families and kids. Regardless of when you visit Ireland, this beach is a great stop along the Wild Atlantic Way coastal drive. The 5km long spit stretches between the scenic Dingle and Iveragh Peninsulas and provides panoramic views of both mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. Inch beach was even used as a filming location for the movie Ryan’s Daughter. Renowned for its very rich diversity of flora and fauna, the beach and surrounding area is protected as a Special Area of Conservation under EU law. Inch beach is ideally suited for water activities such as swimming, surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.
A designated area of the beach is supervised by lifeguards during the summer months. In addition, the sandy beach offers ample opportunities for sand castle building with the little ones. The Irish maritime climate means that you are unlikely to experience very hot weather, even during the summer months and the water temperature is likely to be cool (peaking around 18 °C in early August). The months of July and August are probably the best, and most popular time to visit this location, but as it is a very big beach, there is room for everyone! This beach also is beautiful in winter and is a great place to go for a long walk or jog or even to fly a kite. Wetsuits can be rented from the two surf schools located near the car park. Light refreshments can also be purchased in the nearby cafe and tourist shop.
Monte Turno, Costa Rei, Sardinia
by: Claudia of Strictly Sardinia
Hardly known to the travel market beyond Europe, the island of Sardinia is an incredible tourist destination throughout the year. But reaches perfection during the summer months when visitors can enjoy what truly are some of the best beaches in the world.
One of the best beaches in Sardinia is Cala di Monte Turno. It is located in the area of Costa Rei, on the southeastern coast of the island. And just south of Sant’Elmo, one of the most famous beach resorts on the island. This small cove is a heavenly place, with fine white sand, clear shallow waters and granite rock formations on both sides and Mediterranean bush at its back. Also, the fine sand and the shallow water make it a perfect spot for families with children. But the location as a great sunset spot makes it also very romantic, thus a great destination for couples as well. Moreover, located on Monte Turno beach there also is a kiosk called Iki Beach that serves light meals, gelato and all sorts of drinks throughout the day, and aperitivo at sunset. Also, they rent various beach equipment!
To get to Monte Turno from Costa Rei take road SP18 southbound. It’s at about 5 km. Make sure to drive very slowly as you approach it. As there is a sharp U turn to get into the dirt road that leads you to the beach. There is a parking lot where you can park your car for about €6 for the day – watch out for fines!
Noosa Beach, Australia
by Erin of Australian Mountains to Sea
Noosa is located just under two hours north of Queensland’s capital city Brisbane, in the popular region of the Sunshine Coast. The place has a fantastic climate all year round. Thus, making it a great holiday destination for keen beach goers and outdoor lovers. Also, Noosa is one of the most spectacular beaches on the Sunny Coast. And offers something for everyone. As it is known for its rain forest walks, National Park, Noosa River as well as popular Hastings Street.
We love Noosa because it has something for all of us. The kids love to run in and out of the waves, watch the surfers and stand up paddle boarders and build sandcastles. Also, the beach in Noosa is always clean, well looked after and tidy. And the palm trees that frame the edges, just make it a picture-perfect beach. As a result, I always come away feeling rested, relaxed and like I’ve had a holiday!
I love the Noosa main beach for the clear water, the waves (body surfing is an all time favourite) and the close proximity to Hastings Street. Where we find lots of great eateries, bars and boutique shops. There are a great variety of cafes, restaurants and ice cream choices that keep us all happy.
The well maintained walking tracks along the coast are also a big draw card for us to take family holidays to Noosa. There is nothing better than starting my day with a walk through Noosa National Park, enjoying the woodlands, rainforest and the incredible coastal scenery. Also, just a short drive from Noosa there are so many other great beaches to explore as well as the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

Carneiros Beach, Brazil
by: Bruna of Heart brazil
Photo by Antonino Visalli on Unsplash
When people think of Brazil, the first thing they imagine is Copacabana or Ipanema beaches in Rio de Janeiro. But what many tourists don’t know is that Carneiros Beach in Pernambuco State is by far one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil – far more impressive than those spots in Rio.Sorry, not sorry.Surrounded by swaying palm trees and turquoise water teeming with wildlife, Carneiros Beach is without exaggeration an illustrative definition of paradise.
The calm sea, together with the awe-inspiring landscape, invites many tourists to this spot in the northeast region of Brazil, only 90 km from Recipe Airport. Beyond that, Carneiros is home to the lovely São Benedito Chapel, a little church from the 18th-century.So right there on the sand stretch, you can spot a lovely chapel among the palm trees. Isn’t that a perfect wedding spot?
If not for a wedding, it certainly is a spot to get a photoshoot with your significant other. To get to this beach, you can take a boat or walk about 7 km along the sea from Tamandaré Beach. As for the best time to visit this spot, the period between September and February is the sunniest and driest, especially during the months of October and November. On the other hand, it rains quite a lot during the Brazilian winter, which is between June and August. Still, the year-round temperature average is 23ºC-25ºC. So be sure to pack your swimsuit and plan a trip to Brazil–you won’t regret it!
Balos, Crete, Greece
by: Adriana of Czech the World
Balos beach and lagoon is located in the Northwestern corner of Crete island, Greece. In fact, Balos belongs among the most beautiful places on the whole island. As, turquoise water, white sand, and the picturesque little island of Tigani make perfect lagoon scenery. It’s a great destination for summer holidays. Because Crete has a typical Mediterranean climate with rainy winters and hot, sunny summers. If you want to avoid crowds, come early in the morning to enjoy at least a few quiet hours on a paradise beach of Balos. And if you visit the place off-season or early/ very late in the season, you might be the only people in the area.
During the summer season, there is a beach bar, shower, toilets and changing rooms. In fact, you can also hire sunbeds and beach umbrellas. Also, visitors arriving by boat have the opportunity to buy drinks or snacks on the boat as well.
>In case you want to come by car, it will be a little adventure trip. As, the last 8 km is just a dirt road with lots of rocks. So, count at least 30 minutes for driving this section. There is a fee of €1 per person collected at the beginning of the road. So, be prepared for that and have cash with you! Also, keep in mind that insurance of most of the rental companies doesn’t cover driving on a dirt road like this. Although, there is a free parking lot available at the end of the road. Last but not the least, don’t forget to take the picture of this lovely place from the upper viewpoint and check more about Balos Beach in Crete.
Piha Beach, New Zealand
by: Jordan of Inspired by Maps
Piha is one of the most famous surf beaches in New Zealand. And the perfect place for couples to explore together. Located less than an hour’s drive from the center of New Zealand’s biggest city, Piha is wild, unpredictable, and oh-so-romantic. And consistently appears as one ofthe best things to do in Auckland.Definitely, it is one of the best beaches around the world.
The energy of the huge waves crashing in from across the Tasman, the black sand, the giant Lion Rock, the lush temperate rainforest, the cute community of holiday homes. It all combines to create a place which is truly enchanting.
Piha is pensive, misty, spiritual, wild, wet, and utterly windswept. On a day trip, you can scale Lion Rock (which divides North and South Piha). And go swimming under the watchful gaze of surf lifeguards. Or, try your hand at surfing. In fact, you and your significant other can even stay dry. And wander the expansive beach and enjoy its energy. For an extra romantic visit, hire a holiday house and stay overnight. Because, being located on the west coast of NZ means you get incredible sunsets here.
While you are out there, make sure to stop at the neighborhood Piha Cafe for excellent food. Which includes coffee, brunch, and pizza. And have this food before tackling one of the many bushwalking tracks that cover the hills around Piha. Actually, the 1.5-hour Kitekite Falls track is my personal favorite. Or the Laird Thomson Track, hidden in the bush of North Piha, that takes you through a coastal pohutukawa grove to a panoramic lookout with unique aspects of the coastline north and south!
Tanjung Aru , Sabah, Malaysia
by Sundeep and Bedabrata of DelhiFunDos
Sabah, Malaysia is still not a very popular destination for vacations. But from personal experience, it is one heady place with an eclectic mix of city life, history, nature, mountains and a very pristine beach – Tanjung Aru.
Tanjung Aru beach is located in Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah . The easiest way to reach Kota Kinabalu is to take a flight from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. The city has a convenient transport system and you can take a taxi to the beach from your hotel.
Tanjung Aru beach is known for one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. So early evening is a good time to hit this spot. The water is a refreshing shade of ice blue at this time. Gradually, the sun comes and merges with the sea. As you see the sun go down the horizon, the colour of the sea would change before your eyes. From a calming blue, it would become a blazing molten gold with hues of red, orange, pink and yellow. If you are a shutterbug, resist and take some timeout from the camera and see the spectacle with plain eyes. You would know why the sunset here is considered as one of the most beautiful sunsets of the world.
Tanjung Aru beach comes to life in the evenings. After sunset, you can head to the shacks to have fresh coconut water, pancakes and fried bananas with cheese and chocolate. Tanjung Aru is a tropical beach so you can visit any time of the year. But if you are averse to humidity, then we would suggest avoiding monsoon, that is July and August and aim October to December. If you like beaches, you will surely thank us for suggesting Tanjung Aru.
Etretat beach in France
by Elisa from France Bucket List
Etretat is a small town on the Alabaster Coast, in the French region of Normandy in Northern France. The beach is best known for its white cliffs and intriguing rock formations, a source of inspiration for some of Claude Monet’s masterworks. Monet spent many hours in Etretat painting the beach and the cliffs and today Etretat is a must-destination for Monet lovers.
Etretat is also one of the most beautiful coastal towns in France, incredibly romantic, and perfect for a weekend getaway for couples. At only a few meters from the beach, there are the first houses with a beautiful traditional architecture. There are also a couple of beach restaurants proposing the last catch and they are perfect for a romantic dinner for two.
In Etretat, you can find all the classic water activities apart from swimming and sunbathing. You can also climb up to the Chapelle Notre Dame de la Garde, on the top of the cliffs, which has dramatic views of the coast. The Gardens of Etretat, also on the coast, are also beautiful to see.
Etretat is located 200km north-west of Paris. The best time to visit Etretat to enjoy the beach is in June, July, and August for the best weather. However, when it’s hot in other parts of France, you may need a pullover in Etretat because the air is fresh. The best way to reach Etretat is with your own car and you can combine it with other interesting places in Normandy on a road trip.
Railay Beach, Krabi, Thailand
by: Kerrie & Woody of Just Go Travelling
When it comes to the best beaches around the world, Thailand has an abundance. And Thailand’s beaches feature pristine, crystal-clear water, silky white sand and of course, amazing sunsets.
Railay Beach in Krabi, Thailand, is no exception. As, it ticks all those boxes. Thousands of tourists flock to the beach every day for a taste of paradise. Also, it is surrounded by limestone cliffs that protrude out of the sea giving it a unique atmosphere known to Thailand. At the same time, Traditional long-tail boats come in and out near the end of the beach which further cement the feeling of awe Thailand presents.
This beach is particularly great for couples. As it is right next to restaurants on the beach and luxury villas and hotels with their own private pools. Not many families travel to Railay Beach as you need to take a traditional long-tail boat from Ao Nang Beach, making it a bit difficult for the family with young children. Overall, the whole vibe of the place is really relaxed and everyone has a smile on their face welcoming you to enjoy the surroundings.
The best time to visit would be between November – February. As you will be spoilt with gorgeous weather on most days with very little chance of rain. However, this is peak season so expect to pay a little more on accommodation. And you will have to book more in advanced for those luxury villas. Also, the accommodation on Railay Beach can be expensive. So a better option would be to stay at Ao Nang Beach. And visit Railay Beach for a day trip. The long-tail boat trip between the beaches is only a 15 min ride.

Tanjung Aan Beach, Lombok, Indonesia
by: Samantha Karen of Sam Sees World
The best beaches around the world are the ones that take your breath away the second you see them. They have sparkling white sand, dazzling blue waters, and the feeling that you’ve discovered something amazing. And there is no better beach in the world to give you these magical feelings than Tanjung Aan Beach in Lombok Indonesia. As, this beach is beyond picture-perfect and looks like it was edited to be on a postcard.
What makes this beach so magical is a combination of factors. As, beyond the pristine white sands and Kool-Aid blue water, it has a charm unmatched by other destinations. And there are far fewer tourists in Lombok that other popular beach destinations. Which makes the beach experience much more intimate and private. As you can enjoy a spot on the beach far from any other people. And soak in the surroundings in a more intimate way. There is nothing worse than visiting a beautiful beach only to be surrounded by hundreds of people ruining the experience. So, the private beach experience gives this beach a very romantic feel. Which is why it is perfect for couples! It is beyond enjoyable to lay on a beach chair, drink a fresh coconut and swim in the blue water with your partner, feeling like the only two in the world.
Tanjung Aan Beach can be visited all year round. As the climate here is always favourable for beach days – even in the rainy season which is more of a one-hour rain per day. But if you want to visit when there are very few people, the months of December to March are best. This is the dedicated rainy season. And the thought of rain scares people off.
Porth Joke, Cornwall
by : Kat of Wandering Bird
One of the best secret beaches anywhere in the world is Porth Joke Cove, near Perranporth in Cornwall. Although, the entire northern coastline of Cornwall has fantastic beaches, full of soft sand and great surfing waves. But that, of course, draws the crowds to match! So, we were recommended to add Porth Joke to ourCornwall itinerary as somewhere to get away from large numbers of people. Even in the height of summer.
Porth Joke beach is tiny, has next to no facilities and is not easy to get to. Therefore, it stays relatively quiet throughout the year. Even in August- even when Newquay is over-crowded only a short distance away. The beach is a short walk from the car park (about 10-15 minutes). This does mean you need to carry all your gear with you. But that’s the price for fewer people! Also, there are no toilets or cafe at this beach. So most families choose to go elsewhere with more facilities. Thus, making it a perfect retreat for couples or those with older kids.
There is also no shade. So I highly recommend taking a parasol, a picnic and drinks if you’re going to spend the day. (And you are definitely going to want to spend the day!)
There are cliffs on 3 sides of the cove. So you’re fairly sheltered from the wind most of the time. But you can still enjoy some great surfing waves. It’s fairly safe for swimming or snorkelling. But please be aware of rip tides which are common all along this coast. And don’t let children swim too far offshore. Having said that, it definitely makes for one of the best beaches around the world in our list!
Mission Beach, San Diego
by: Maria Hasse of San Diego Explorer
Mission Beach is one of the best beaches in San Diego. I live in San Diego and it is one of my favorite beaches to go to. As, you can do so much there, not just lay on the beach. If you like active beach days, this beach is your dream. You can go surfing. Or, take lessons, if you are a beginner. Also, rent a bike and ride along the boardwalk. Or play ball at one of the many beach volleyball or basketball courts. Of course, you can also relax and get a tan in the sand or splash in the waves. Along the boardwalk, you will find many restaurants and bars. And there’s nothing better than people watching on the beach with a cocktail in one hand and a fish taco in the other. I like Beach House Grill for the atmosphere. As, nothing puts you in vacation mood like their spicy Margarita and feeling the warm sand between your toes.
If you want to channel some childhood memories, you should stop by Belmont Park. Which is a small amusement park with a historic rollercoaster, game booths and fair food stalls. Ride the Giant Dipper overlooking the Pacific and make some fun memories with your partner.
Mission Beach is located right in the city of San Diego, just to the north-west of Downtown. And there is free parking too. But it can get crowded, especially on summer weekends. So, I suggest you get there early to find parking. And if you don’t have a car and are not staying nearby, I recommend taking a shared ride. As public transportation is not that great in San Diego. The best time to go is July-September, if you want full sun all day. As, during the rest of the year, the water can be bit cooler. And you might experience some marine layer.
Varadero Beach, Cuba
by: Kay of the Awkward Traveller
The Caribbean boasts of some pretty picturesque beaches. But Varadero Beach in Cuba has one of the best beaches around the world for couples! With the white sand, turquoise waters, and warm temperature, a weekend in Varadero is the perfect romantic getaway. Located about an hour and a half from Havana, the city of Varadero is a resort town accustomed to visitors from every nationality. Stay at the famed Guajiro House for your own private loft. Just a short walk away from the beach. Or you could use the included bikes to explore the beach faster. Guajiro House will also equip you with hat rentals and mojitos to enjoy your afternoon in the sun.
Visiting Varadero Beach during the winter months (November-February) will give you the most comfortable weather. With temperatures hovering around 80F/26C and dry skies. My favorite experience was strolling under the palm trees with my boyfriend and listening to the waves gently wash onshore. The shade at the beach is ample. And there is always enough space to spread out a blanket for a picnic. Nearby the beach are a few local markets selling crafts, souvenirs, artwork, and trinkets to remember your trip. As far as food, a great restaurant right on the beach is Restaurante Esquina Cuba, which has incredible drinks, dishes, and desserts! After watching the sunset from the beach, head across the street to one of the many dance studios to take a Cuban salsa (casino) lessons with the experts and dance the night away with your loved one.
Hamdeok beach in Jeju island, South Korea
South Korea is not really famous as a beach destination. And this is a shame. As Jeju Island has some of the most beautiful beaches around the world with clean blue water, white sand and stunning cliffs. The island was formed during a volcano eruption 2 million years ago, this is why the island consists mainly of basalt and lava.
Jeju Island is often referred to as the Maldives or Hawaii of Korea because of its exotic features and stunning beaches. The best and most popular beach to visit is Hamdeok beach in the north east of the island. A 45 minute drive away from Jeju City and very easily accessible by rental car or public transport. Moreover, the beach is free to enter and has a bus stop and paid parking is located at the beach entrance.
If you want to escape the crowds then the best time to visit is in spring and autumn. Especially during the weekdays as in weekends and during Korean holidays this beach is jam packed. During summer, South Korea can get very hot and humid, so it’s recommended to avoid traveling during July and August. Jeju Island is a very popular weekend destination among Koreans from the mainland, especially for those on honeymoon. If you are traveling as a couple, Hamdeok beach is a must visit as it’s probably one of the most exotic beaches in Korea.
Apart from admiring this stunning beach and swimming, you’ll find a couple of cafes and restaurants with stunning viewpoints and the start of a walking trail leading up the cliffs.
7-mile beach, Jamaica
by Lindsey Puls of Have Clothes, Will Travel
The 7-mile beach is a breathtaking white-sand beach in tropical Negril, Jamaica. It’s the most beautiful stretch of beach I have ever seen. Its waters are crystal clear, shallow and relatively calm. This beach gets its name because it is, literally, almost 7 miles long! The beach is near Norman Manley Boulevard in Negril, which is a rather small town with a population of just over 3,000 people. It’s made up of a long 4-mile stretch and then a smaller 3 mile stretch in Bloody Bay.
There is no shortage of fun activities on the 7-mile beach! It’s a great location for snorkeling and diving. There are also numerous places to rent kayaks, jet skis, catamarans, and more. Or if you would rather not be in charge of driving – you can hop on board a glass-bottom boat tour!
There are also tons of different resorts you can stay at along the 7-mile beach. I’m personally a fan of Sandals Negril, it’s a wonderful, all-inclusive, couples-only resort. It’s the perfect location for a romantic getaway with your significant other. The best time of year to visit Jamaica is during winter – ideally November to mid-December. The temperatures are averaging 80 degrees Fahrenheit at this time of year, and the peak tourist season doesn’t hit until typically January to March.
Avoid visiting this area during June – late October, as you run a high risk of bad weather (this is hurricane season in Jamaica). Although, the rates will be significantly cheaper.
Best Beaches Around the World for Solo Travellers
Agonda Beach, Goa, India
by: Mariellen Ward of Breathe Dream Go
Agonda Beach in Goa is perfect for solo travelers
Though I had travelled in India for many months, over numerous trips, I avoided Goa. I was worried it would be too touristy, too western, and too busy for my liking. Finally, I did visit and then it took me a couple of trips to discover the best offbeat places to visit in Goa, and my favourite beach.
Agonda Beach is in South Goa, way down the coast, where people are less and nature is more. Generally speaking, North Goa is the busy part of the state, where the infamous beach parties were held, and South Goa the quieter, more-laid back region. There are several good beaches, but Agonda is my favourite because it is not built up, most of the accommodation is simple huts or small resorts, it’s quiet, and it attracts a slightly older crowd who seem to be interested in health and wellness. Also, the ocean is calm here (and warm!) as the crescent shape of the beach protects it from the rough waves.
When I went there for a beach vacation by myself, I ended up in a charming beach shack and quickly met three other single women who were into nature, Yoga, and good food — all the things I love! We spent days swimming and walking along the beach, and always met for dinner. We wandered from one beach-front cafe to the next looking for the freshest seafood and the most appealing vibe. I have such great memories of this beach, and hope it never changes. Like all Goa beaches, the best time to go is October to March.

Ipanema beach in Rio de Janeiro
by: Mal of Raw Mal Roams
Ipanema beach is one of the coolest beaches you can possibly visit on your Rio itinerary It is situated between Leblon and Copacabana and is famous for its stunning backdrop – the Dois Irmãos Hill resembling camel humps!
Ipanema beach is perfectly safe for solo female travellers during the day despite Rio’s bad reputation. I stayed in a nearby hotel in Copacabana and walked to the beach along the coast. On your walk, don’t forget to sample Brazilian special – acai bowl that is sold by local vendors everywhere. They are truly delicious and so healthy!
On the beach, you can hire sun chairs and parasols for a few dollars and order some fresh coconut water or even better a caipirinha! There are lots of beach vendors circling around offering to sell all sort of different products, but they are not a problem if you politely say no. I recommend leaving all your valuable in your hotel and only bringing some small change for drinks and snacks if you’re on your own. Alternatively, you can ask other people to look after your bag while you go for a swim. Ipanema is also a great sunset spot for hanging out. The sun goes behind the ‘camel humps’ hill creating a fantastic view.
With the tropical climate characterised by hot and humid summers and warm winters, Rio de Janeiro is a year-round destination with the temperature rarely deep under 20 degrees. The best time to visit Rio, however, is between December and March when the weather is sunny but not too hot. And the bonus for visiting in February is the famous Rio Carnival which brings people out on the streets to hang out with friends in so-called “block parties”.
Los Caños de Meca Beach, Spain
by: Linn Haglund of Brainy Backpackers
One of the best beaches to go as a solo female traveler is to Los Caños de Meca beach in Andalusia Spain. The mesmerizing windswept beach sits on Cape Trafalgar in the province of Cadiz, where the battle of Trafalgar once took place. Today, it is a popular summer destination for locals from Seville and Cadiz and it boasts with life during the summer months. There are several beach bars on the road down to the cape with food, drinks and music continuing long after the beach hours have passed. This is a great place to meet people.
The beach itself does not have any facilities and you will have to bring your own parasol for shade. Pay a visit to Trafalgar lighthouse. You can walk around the lighthouse on the tip of the cape along the cliffs. Walk across the sand banks to watch the sunset on the opposite beach, faro de Trafalgar Beach, which is only separated by huge sand banks. Los Caños de Meca is known for its bohemian spirit and you should not be surprised if local musicians play in the sand dunes once the sun goes low on the sky. The beach is also a popular spot for wind surfers as the coast of Cadiz tends to get good amounts of wind, which is also the reason for the wild sand dunes covering the cape. So make sure you check the wind forecast if you plan on a quiet day sunbathing on the beach.
Blue Lagoon, Egypt
by: Nadine Arab of Curls en Route
Perfect for solo travelers and groups of friends, Dahab’s Blue Lagoon is an overlooked destination amongst Egypt’s visitors. Travelers usually visit Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan (which are must-visits anyway) but when they opt for a beach destination, they go for the clichés: Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. However, the Afro-Asian country has so much more to offer.
Dahab is a laid-back beach town in Sinai, close to Sharm El Sheikh. It’s best known for its array of adventure activities like diving, snorkeling, hiking, rock climbing, and more. Blue Lagoon is one of Dahab’s most popular destinations, yet, it’s a secluded camping spot by the sea that
requires two pick-up truck rides and a boat ride to reach it from downtown! But once you arrive, you find yourself in heaven on earth; the bumpy, long ride is totally worth it.
Aside from staying in huts, swimming in the pristine waters of the Gulf of Aqaba, and the picturesque backdrop of the mountains, Blue Lagoon is famous for kitesurfing! The lagoon’s shallow water surface makes it a perfect spot for practicing tricks and a great learning place for beginners.
Egypt, in general, is a year-round destination that could be visited anytime. But since Sinai is one of the country’s hottest places, it’s best to go in the Spring or Fall, so it wouldn’t be blazing hot or too cold to swim. When you’re there, make sure to go on day trips to other nearby towns like Saint Catherine, which is a haven for avid hikers. There are various valleys and mountains to explore but the top two experiences are Mount Catherine; the highest summit in Egypt, and Mount Sinai; where Moses was believed to have received the 10 commandments.
Raglan, New Zealand
by: Emma of Day Dream Believer
If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-track beach to visit in New Zealand, look no further than the small coastal town of Raglan! Located on the West Coast of New Zealand’s North Island, in the Waikato region, Raglan is much-loved by locals but often missed by tourists.
Best known for its unique black sand beaches and world-renowned epic surf break at Manu bay, Raglan is a laid-back beach town perfect for solo female travellers. You will find plenty of local families and other travellers enjoying this safe town; whether that be visiting the beach, dining at the local eateries or checking out the plethora of artisan and independent boutique shops in the small town centre.
Raglan is a beautiful beach to visit all year-round; you can soak up the hustle and bustle as the town thrives over warm summer days or enjoy a slower pace and chilly but secluded morning beach walks during the winter months. Whenever you choose to visit you’re sure to have an amazing adventure.
You can easily reach Raglan by car or bus in just over 30 minutes from the nearest city, Hamilton. Nearby you will find plenty of outdoor activities like the stunning Bridal Veil Falls or a more strenuous hike up Karioi summit track. Make sure you don’t leave town without grabbing a coffee at The Shack or local coffee roasters Raglan Roast, enjoy fish and chips on the wharf or try a real fruit ice cream from Roll Up Ice Cream Parlour – be prepared for queues here in the summer, everyone loves a real fruit ice cream.
Raglan is one of New Zealand’s hidden gems, once you arrive you won’t want to leave!
Playa Carrizalillo, Mexico
by: Lara of Both Feet On The Road
Puerto Escondido is a cool surf town on the west coast of Mexico. Besides the relaxed atmosphere and the good waves, Puerto Escondido also offers great beaches for solo female travelers. And the number one beach to visit in Puerto Escondido is Playa Carrizalillo (in my humble opinion of, course).
Playa Carrizalillo is a small bay where you will always find other people enjoying this beautiful spot. As a solo traveler, I always felt super safe leaving my stuff on the beach while went for a swim. There are plenty of trees around the bay, so you can find some shade in case your poor skin can’t handle the Mexican sun anymore (like mine).
Playa Carrizalillo is located down a small hill, so you need to walk down at least 150 steps to get to the beach. I know this doesn’t sound very appealing. Especially, knowing that you also have to climb those steps back up to leave Playa Carrizalillo. But trust me, once you’ve seen the view from the top of the stairs, you will agree with me that it is absolutely worth the climb.
Unlike many beaches in the Cancun area, you will not find any seaweed at Playa Carizalillo. You get to watch people surf, SUP, or just enjoying the ocean. But the best thing about Playa Carrizalillo is the stunning sunset at sea, every single night. It was that beautiful sunset that drew me back to Playa Carrizalillo every single day (despite the many steps).
Temperatures are high year-round, making every month a good month to visit. However, July, August, and December are high season, so you may want to skip these months if you want to avoid the crowds and high prices.
Loch Ard Gorge, Australia
by: Chris of The Aquarius Traveller
A highlight of any Australian beach tour, would be to travel along the Great Ocean Road. And in particular, visit Loch Ard Gorge. Millions of visitors flock to this beach cove each year to admire the sites, take a swim. Or generally just chill on the beach. The Gorge was named after a shipwreck that run aground in 1978 and is located along the Southern coast of Victoria, Australia.
This unique gorge is home to a smooth, pearlescent bay and an inlet of clear, blue water. It looks like something out of a story book being surrounded by two yellow-coloured cliff faces amongst the Australian bushland. As well as that, the beach has coarse yellow/orange sand which is very easy to walk on.
There are a number of short walking tracks surrounding the gorge which you can enjoy at your leisure. As well as the stairs that lead down onto the beach. And these have a number of different views around the Gorge. If you are just there to take in the sights!
You can visit the beach all year round. But during the winter months (June to September) the water temperature tends to be a bit colder, along with the sand freezing your feet in the shade. As the high cliffs block the sun most of the day, it’s normally nicer between 9am and 3pm. So, if you intend to swim, then it’s better to visit with calmer tides as the swells can be strong.
I have visited the beach a number of times over the years. As a Solo traveller or even with the family. Not to mention, it is always a great spot to take a blanket and curl up with your partner while watching the waves roll in. Clearly, it is one of the best beaches in the world.
Bonsai Rock Beach, Lake Tahoe, USA
By: Jenine of Le Wild Explorer
Lake Tahoe is a resort town in Nevada. And the lake itself is shared by the boarding state, California. It’s widely known for its blue water. And is highly popular in the summer and winter. The winter is cold and snowy and draws in crowds for its snow sports but the summertime is something special. As, the summers in Lake Tahoe can get quite hot. Temperatures can reach well into the 80s and 90s (Fahrenheit, 26 – 32 degrees Celsius). However, this is the perfect opportunity to take a dip, paddleboard, or rent a boat.
One of the most beautiful beaches is Bonsai Rock Beach. It’s quite popular so it’s recommended to arrive early so you don’t have to park your car far away. It’s a short hike down. And hard to miss, you’ll see the iconic rock as you’re making your descent. This beach brings in a fun crowd. You’ll see some families but you’ll also see locals listening to music, adventure seekers jumping off rocks, and the occasional kayaker. But if you’re there to relax there are also large rocks you can lay on to sunbathe. It’s a great spot for solo female travellers. Overall, the vibe is friendly and extremely welcoming. You’ll be likely to strike up a conversation with visitors and locals alike.
It’s recommended to visit earlier to snag a parking space and a spot to lay your belongings. Also if you want to snap some photos mornings and the evenings are the best times. The water is super clear but with the sun it creates glare. An easy way to avoid this is by avoiding harsh sunlight or by using a polarized filter on your camera. It’s one of the best photo spots in Lake Tahoe and is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Playa Maderas Nicaragua
by: Roshni of The Wanderlust Within
One of the best beaches for solo female travellers has to be the beautiful Playa Maderas in Nicaragua. Located 20 minutes from the popular surf town of San Juan del Sur, Playa Maderas is still rustic compared to most beaches. And can only be accessed by journeying down a bumpy dirt road. However, the adventurous journey is totally worth it. As Playa Maderas is known for being an all year round surfing hotspot. It is visited by both beginners and more advanced surfers. As the waves close to the beach are perfect for those learning how to surf. And the deeper waves are great for professionals.
There are several surf schools found along on the beach, including DreamSeaSurf who managed to teach me to ride my first ever wave on Playa Maderas! I had tried and failed three times before in other countries so my experience in Nicaragua will forever stay with me and is one of the reasons why I was inspired to collate my favourite beach quotes!
If surfing isn’t for you, there are plenty of other things to do in Playa Maderas. Such as photograph the unique shark fin shaped rock formations that make this beach so recognisable. And you can also do a 90 minute horse riding tour along the beaches or join a sunset catamaran trip along the coastline.
Playa Maderas has limited amenities, including two restaurants. And lots of sun loungers to rent. The easiest way to get to the beach is by catching the shuttle bus outside Casa Oro in San Juan del Sur.
Victoria Beach – Laguna Beach, CA
by Erin McLaughlin from The Gal On The Go
Victoria Beach is located in beautiful Laguna Beach, California which is known for great weather and sunshine all year-round. While this beach is perfect to visit at any time of the year, I recommend visiting in the fall when there are fewer tourists. What makes Victoria Beach so special is the 60-foot tall pirate tower found right by the ocean. The tower was built in 1926 for State Senator William E. Brown and his family to access the beach below from their house on the cliff. Since the tower is privately owned, the public cannot go inside but anyone is able to admire the spectacle from the beach.
The enchanting Pirate Tower is only accessible during low tide so use caution when visiting! Victoria Beach is at 2713 Victoria Dr., Laguna Beach, CA 92651, and parking is found on PCH. The entrance to the beach is in a residential area via a stairway at Sunset Terrance and Victoria Drive. Once at the bottom of the stairs, follow the beach to the right and you will be greeted by the breathtaking tower and sweeping ocean views. Visiting Victoria Beach and Pirate’s Tower is ideal for solo female travelers because the area is known to be safe and traveled to frequently. Sunset is an incredible time of day to visit since the sky illuminates with spectacular colors. This Laguna Beach landmark is so unique and an absolute hidden gem in California that is definitely worth the trip to. Be sure to take lots of photos, pack water and snacks for this memorable and easy adventure!
Best Tropical Beaches Around the World
Morjim Beach, Goa, India
by: Rai of A Rai of Light
Located in the northern part of Goa, Morjim beach lies close to the more popular beaches of the region. Yet, it stands apart due to its serene and tranquil nature. And visitors go to this relatively untraveled beach to get away from the crowds, to relax at the huts scattered along the sand at the south end. The area, part of the small Morjim village, is inhabited by a wide variety of people creating a good blend of diverse cultures. Also, it has earned the alias “Little Russia” due to the large concentration of Russian expatriates living there. Here, the water is pleasant for swimming .And it is a popular place among kite surfers due to its shallow waters and wide beach.
What’s particularly special about Morjim is that the landscape is a mix of palm trees, paddy fields, and forests. And is well known as a nesting ground for the endangered Olive Ridley Sea Turtles. The protected marine turtles mean that parties are generally banned, with relaxation and alternative therapies being the pursuit of choice. And the trails along the beach lead to a pristine wilderness that is great for exploring, in between time well spent along this beautiful stretch of coastline that is renowned for its sunsets. And is well worth the effort required to visit during a vacation in Goa.
Hapuna Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii
by: Noel Morata of This Hawaii Life
Of all the best beaches around the world, Hapuna Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii always gets ranked into the top ones to enjoy. With a gorgeous and large white sandy beach to enjoy, stark black lava rocks to jump from or snorkel around. And easy waves to keep the kiddies busy with active sport, you’ll really love this spectacular beach. Also, there are dressing, shower facilities and lifeguard stations on the beach. Thus making this a perfect beach for all occasions. And there are also eating pavilions with picnic and bbq facilities for those that tend to make it an all day affair. And why not with such a stunning beach to enjoy, you’ll want to spend all your time on this magnificent beach, playing in the water, building sand castles. Or taking a nice long stroll all over the beach. It really is a special beach to enjoy. And there is plenty of room to find your place to spread a big towel.
If you are looking for more inspiration to visiting the Big Island, check out my post on a family friendly visit to the Big Island here for details of what to see and do around the island. There’s so much to see and do with kids, a couple or traveling solo all over the island which has something for everyone to enjoy.
Mawun Beach, Lombok, Indonesia
by: Fuad Omar of A Walk In the World
Most of the people go to Bali during their Indonesia trip. However, before you get out of Bali airport and take a bluebird taxi, think a bit! Because just 25 minutes of flight from Bali can take you to Lombok, it’s the neighbouring island. However, the problem with Lombok is that there are so many options to explore. So, one can easily get confused about choosing a beach. However, there is no right or wrong selection while choosing one. You just take a motorbike or rent a car. Then follow any main road, look out for the smell of the seas. And get into a road to the left or right.
Those, undeveloped muddy roads take you to some of the best of the best beaches around the world which are unforgettable. Mawun beach was one of them. When I reached there by accident, I was kind of spellbound. As, it was so huge and beautiful, I could not believe my eyes. On top of that, there was no one on that beach during my visit. So, it was like visiting a private beach which is about twice the size of a football ground – ready to welcome you exclusively. The powdery golden sand, turquoise blue water and lush green mountains to the both sides of the beach – all alone for you!! It’s not a dream, it’s a reality. If this place was in a popular tourist destination like Thailand, you would have shared it with a couple of hundred people. And you will understand if you were in Maya Bay once. However, in Lombok, in Mawun beach, you will find your perfect dream of spending your own time. So, visit there before this word spreads to the world.
Cabo San Juan, Colombia
by: Lau of Living out Lau
Colombia, a country located next to the Caribbean Sea. So, it shouldn’t surprise you as a destination with some amazing beaches. And here is where I found my favorite tropical beach in the world – Cabo San Juan. Cabo San Juan is located inside the protected Tayrona National Park, an area known for its pristine beaches and jungle vibes. Tremendous efforts have been made by the Colombia government to ensure Tayrona National Park remains in its most natural conditions. In fact, indigenous tribes still inhabit the park. And the park is closed for one month every year for their needs. As a result, not only is the beach stunning in Cabo San Juan. But the whole experience of venturing into the jungle to reach this paradise is surreal.
Due to its beauty, it is one of the most popular destinations in Colombia. And also one of the best beaches around the world. Something you must surely add to your Colombia itinerary. But, Cabo San Juan tends to be extremely crowded on the weekends or any national holidays in Colombia, diminishing its natural beauty. Although many people visit Cabo Juan San decide to stay a night or two. As the area is an equipped campground with restaurants, showers, and bathrooms. When it comes to accommodation, visitors can rent a tent or hammock, or bring their own tent. And be ready to enjoy the beauty of the place lashed with their outdoor gears.
One of the special features of Cabo San Juan is the watchtower that juts into the ocean. In the watchtower are hammocks that visitors can rent and sleep in at night. If you are looking for paradise, sleeping on the watchtower is a must. As you wake up to the sound of crashing waves, a gorgeous sunrise, and birds singing from the jungle. There is simply nothing more spectacular than that!
Mar Bella, Barcelona
by: Stefan Arestis of Nomadic Boys
Barcelona’s Mar Bella beach is one of our favourite beaches for gay couples. Officially called Platja de la Mar Bella, it is a clothing-optional beach just outside central Barcelona, particularly popular with couples and the LGBTQ community. We ourselves love going to Mar Bella in the summer months. Particularly in July/August. When the weather is hottest. It always attracts a chilled, fun crowd of people, mainly around the Chiringuito BeGay bar. Which serves up some fantastic cocktails. Also, we particularly love coming to Mar Bella beach during the big Barcelona Circuit festival in mid-August. When the beach becomes the focal point for some of the main parties. But, the only downside is that it gets super busy. And sand space becomes hard to come by. Outside of the Circuit Festival, Mar Bella is a lot more chilled.
Mar Bella is located close to the Poble Nou metro stop on the L4 line. From there it’s a 10-minute walk down Bilbao Street until you hit the sea. Alternatively, just hop on a taxi. And this is one of many reasons why we love Barcelona – it’s one of the few cities in the world that has a world-class beach right on its doorstep. And not only that, one of the best beaches around the world which is a gay friendly beach!!
An Interesting fact about Mar Bella beach is that it was in fact created for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. Which involved a massive transformation of the city’s coastline.
Our tip for visiting this beach: supplies are quite limited along the beach. But there are a few supermarkets on the way over where you can pop into to get sunscreen, water, drinks and snacks. You can rent beach umbrellas and deck chairs at Mar Bella. And there are also showers and public toilets.
Four Mile Beach Port Douglas Queensland Australia
by: Tracy of Tracy Travels in Time
4 mile beach is one of Australia’s best beaches. And is located in the tropical paradise town of Port Douglas in Far North Queensland. Actually, the beach is not (as the name suggests) 4 miles long. But is named after a local family called Fourmile. At 4 kilometres long and stretching from Island Point to the mangroves of Mowbray River it is still an impressive flat beach of soft, white sand.
Four Mile Beach is accessible on foot from the town of Port Douglas. Many of the town’s hotels and holiday accommodation options back onto the beach. Moreover, paths and walkways provide easy access to the beach and parking is available if you are not staying within walking distance.
Four Mile Beach is patrolled by Surf Lifesaving Queensland. Stinger nets are also set up to ensure that you can safely swim without fear of the deadly jellyfish that can be found in the tropical waters. Particularly between the months of October and May. However it is worth noting the warning signs for another resident of these waters – the saltwater crocodile!
The best time of year to visit Four Mile Beach is between the months of April and October when the weather is warm and less humid than in the wetter summer months. For fantastic views over the entire beach and Coral Sea I recommend walking up to the lookout point at Flagstaff Hill. Also, sunset and sunrise are particularly noteworthy.
Ka’anapali Beach, Maui
By: Jesscia of I am Jess Travelling
Maui is famed for its world class beaches. With over 120 miles of coastline it’s hard not to find the perfect one. And for most visitors exploring Maui that perfect beach is Ka’anapali Beach. Ka’anapali Beach is a mile long stretch of golden sand. And home to several resorts, high end shopping and a beautiful boardwalk. You can find the beach on the west side of Maui.
One of the best aspects of Ka’anapali Beach is black rock. Which is on the North end of the beach. Black rock is lava rock that you can jump off into the water from heights ranging from 5 to 20 feet! Not into cliff jumping? No worries! Ka’anapali Beach has some of Maui’s best snorkeling specifically around black rock. I always spot sea turtles here. And one day I was able to snorkel with over a dozen sea turtles! Which to this day has been the highlight of my snorkeling career. And that is why it counts for one of the best beaches around the world to me.
This is also a great beach for swimming as its easy to get in and out of the water due to its sandy incline. There is never a bad time weather wise to visit the beach as Maui has an average temperature of 80 degrees all year round. I recommend visiting in the winter months because you’ll have a chance to see the humpback whales. Every year the Pacific humpback whales make the trek from the frigid temperatures of Alaska to the warm waters of Hawaii to have their young every. Peak season for whale is February and March and tours leave directly from the beach.
If you’d rather experience the beach from a distance take a stroll along the boardwalk to see this beautiful side of Maui.
Tulum Beach, Mexico
by: Allison of Viva La Travelista
Located on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, Tulum is a bohemian beach town where you’ll find one of the best beaches in Riviera Maya. With widespread powder white sand and stunning turquoise water, it makes for a jaw-dropping first impression. While tourism is definitely increasing in Tulum, it’s much more tranquil than the beaches you’ll find in Cancun or Playa del Carmen. Plus its bohemian eco conscious vibe makes it such a special place to visit.
The climate in Tulum is warm and sunny all year round but the best time to visit is during the months of October-November or March-April. These months are on the shoulder of high season so you’ll still get to enjoy lower humidity but with less crowds and lower prices. I’ve visited Tulum many times but my best experience weather-wise was in November.
Access to the beaches in Tulum can be tricky so you’ll want to book accommodations in the Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera) to have the most exclusive and hassle-free access. Otherwise you’ll need to visit a restaurant or beach club for the day. While visiting a restaurant or beach club, you’ll usually pay a minimum consumption fee to use the lounge chairs and amenities. You can then spend the day relaxing, swimming, and sunbathing.
One of my favorite ways to enjoy Tulum is to rent bicycles and cruise through the Hotel Zone exploring the Instagram worthy shops, cafes, and restaurants. You can then stop at any beach club that grabs your eye. No matter where you end up, the beaches of Tulum are absolutely gorgeous and will not disappoint.

Really interesting post!
So many amazing beaches! Will definitely be adding a few of these to my list when we can travel again!
Emma
Thanks Emma!! It’s turned out to be a tremendous collab.
This is making me have serious beach envy!! Thanks for the great article, so many stunning places to visit!
Definitely Becky. You are welcome!
