Planetarium

The Science City has a modern planetarium that offers shows and presentations on astronomy, the solar system, and space exploration. It’s a fantastic experience for anyone interested in the cosmos. Although we skipped this section. As we have been to the Nehru Planetarium in Bangalore. And the kids had a very good time there, particularly with the show about space and planets. And the story about the creation of earth.

Cyber Village at science city Ahmedabad

A part of the Science city Ahmedabad focused on information technology. This area demonstrates the latest trends in the digital world, including robotics, artificial intelligence, and computer science. There is a whole building dedicated to robotics here. And this is where we spent our maximum time while visiting Science City Ahmedabad. In the robotics section, we saw a lot of demos related to robots. These included:

A wrestling between two robots, Robots playing badminton with human. A demo of how robots are used in precision requiring surgeries and medical procedures. Robots controlling and operating drones and satellites. The usage of robots to clean debris and waste. And a robot dancing to the music

And many more demonstrations about the robots and how they are being used in daily life now a days more and more.

This park displays various renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydro power, and educates visitors about the importance of sustainable energy practices for the future.

Aquarium at Science City Ahmedabad

The aquarium at Science City showcases a variety of aquatic life, from freshwater to marine species, providing visitors with a chance to learn about biodiversity and marine ecosystems. Actually, the aquarium at Science City Ahmedabad had a lot of similarity to the Aquarium and Underwater Zoo in Dubai that we visited earlier on 6 days trip to Dubai. Some of the major sections here included –

An aquarium with overhead glass tunnel which you can walk through. And wherein you can see various varieties of fishes swimming all around you. Including some sharks.

Glass chambers displaying all different types of fishes and other water species. A separate section of penguins !!

In fact, the aquarium at Science City Ahmedabad was the second place after the robotics section where we spent maximum amount of time.

3D Theatre

A state-of-the-art theater where visitors can experience 3D films related to science, space, wildlife, and more. The immersive experience adds another layer of learning and excitement.

Life Sciences Park

Focused on the life sciences, this area includes exhibits related to human anatomy, ecology, genetics, and other biological fields.

Virtual Reality Zone

Visitors can experience cutting-edge virtual reality simulations that help visualize concepts from physics, space, and other fields of science.

Garden at Science City Ahmedabad

There is a huge garden space in Science City Ahmedabad. It is divided into several zones. The garden area houses various plants, shrubs, and trees, creating a natural ambiance for visitors. It’s an excellent place for relaxation and for people who enjoy nature and tranquility amidst their scientific exploration. There is a nice landscaping around the botanical garden. With several water bodies, fountains and even boating options incorporated in the landscape.

The gardens are designed with lush green lawns, flowerbeds, and walkways, providing a peaceful spot to take a break between visits to other exhibits or attractions in the city. Also, the garden section sometimes features specific themes and layouts that align with the general concept of Science City. It may include educational exhibits related to plant sciences, sustainable practices, or environmental awareness.

Along with the greenery, the garden area may also include outdoor sculptures, installations, and science-related art that blends nature and education together. In between the landscaped gardens and play areas for kids, you will see sculptures of dinosaurs, exibits about the faces of moon, the earth and other planets. And fun areas like a maze garden. For families, the garden area serves as a recreational space where children can run around, play, or even participate in activities related to nature and science. Like our younger one thoroughly enjoyed her time in the landscaped garden at Science City Ahmedabad.

I suggest visiting the gardens at the end. After you have visited other sections of Science City Ahmedabad. Which will provide you with a good relaxing time before you head out.

How much time is required to visit Science City Ahmedabad

If you plan to thoroughly visit all the attractions available at Science City Ahmedabad then you should plan for one complete day. However, if you have limited time at hand, I will suggest keeping a minimum of half a day for visiting Science City Ahmedabad. And as such, you should select the attractions beforehand that interest you the most. And you can visit them. For instance, if I were to plan to visit Science City Ahmedabad again, I would skip the whole garden thing, as it’s very similar to any other landscaped or botanical gardens that we have visited before.

Food and Restroom options at Science City Ahmedabad

Science City Ahmedabad has several food options to ensure visitors have a comfortable and enjoyable experience during their visit. While the primary focus of the site is on science and education, it recognizes the importance of food for a full-day outing. Here are the main food options available :

Amul Cafetaria

There is a large Amul Cafetaria available right before the exit. Here visitors can enjoy a variety of snacks, light meals, and beverages. The menu typically includes options like:

  • Sandwiches
  • Burgers
  • Pizzas
  • Samosas, Pakoras, Pav Bhaji, Chole bhature and other Indian snacks
  • Soft drinks, tea, coffee, and juices
  • Ice cream
  • Thali and meal kind of options

The cafeteria provides a casual setting for a quick bite or to relax and refresh.

The Robo Cafe near Robotics Section

To the left of the Robotics Section lies the Robo Cafe which was a major draw for me. It is perhaps the only cafe in India where food is served by Robots. The food itself consists of a limited set of snack like options like sandwiches, coffee, tea, juice, pizza, burger and few other options. But the way it’s served by robots really attracts the guests to this cafe. We also had our coffee and sandwich here in this robo cafe in science city Ahmedabad. And enjoyed being served by the robots.

Food Stalls

Science City also has outdoor food stalls or kiosks selling snacks and refreshments such as:

  • Chaat items (Pani Puri, Bhel Puri)
  • Cold drinks and bottled water
  • Chips, biscuits, and packaged snacks

Picnic Areas

If you’d prefer to bring your own food, there are picnic areas where you can sit and enjoy your meal in a more relaxed environment. Many visitors bring packed lunches, especially families with children, since it provides a nice spot to take a break.

Nearby Restaurants

For a more extensive meal or if you’re looking for local or international cuisine, there are several restaurants near Science City in Ahmedabad. Some of these are:

  • The Green House (offering vegetarian cuisine)
  • Rajwadu (for traditional Gujarati cuisine)
  • Tandoor Restaurant
  • Shree Thaker Bhojanalay (famous for authentic Gujarati thali)

Please note that the food options inside Science City are generally focused on casual dining, offering quick bites and refreshments for families and school groups. Water Bottles and snacks are generally allowed, so if you have specific dietary requirements or prefer homemade meals, you can bring food with you (though it’s always good to check any rules regarding outside food beforehand). We did carry food for our younger kid with us. But we didn’t carry it inside the campus. And left it in our car. Because we thought we will be done in a few hours. However, to visit Science City Ahmedabad , we ended up spending the whole day. So, do plan accordingly.

When it comes to restroom options inside Science City Ahmedabad, there are plenty of options all over. However, personally I found the restrooms inside the individual sections like the aquarium building or the Robotics building were much more cleaner than the ones outside in public spaces and attached to restaurants. Maybe because of limited footfalls in the former.

General tips on visiting Science City Ahmedabad

  • Try to reach early, as the initial few hours are least crowded
  • Select the zones that most interest you and target to visit them first, as there is so much to see and do that you might fall short of time.
  • In Robotics section, you can see the demos only through guided tours. The tours start every half an hour.
  • You can carry your own food and water and enjoy in the Science City Campus a picnic of your own.
  • For some part of your day you will be indoors in AC and for other, you might be outdoors in the garden and in open. So, plan to dress accordingly. When visiting in the winter months of December and January, you can wear a light cotton cloth inside with a layer of jacket or sweater on top of it.
  • Wear comfortable shoes as there will be a lot of walking inside the campus that you will need to do.
