Promenade Beach, Pondicherry – the most unique of the beaches in Pondicherry

Perhaps the most famous of the beaches in Pondicherry is Promenade Beach. Located right in the heart of the city, right besides the French Quarters of White Town in Pondicherry, this beach is like none other in India. Dotted by black rocks and marked with an excellent walkway all along, the Promenade Beach is a perfect place to unwind in the evening. Or have a perfect morning walk early in the morning. You get to see spectacular views of sunrise from here. (Reminded me of our days in Port Blair when we took morning walk along the beautiful walkway alongside the coast).

  • Just sit on the rocks and absorb the vibrant atmosphere around. Or, see the waves crashing against the rocks endlessly
  • Enjoy some mouth watering food along one of the small outlets right on the Promenade. Or else, head to one of the cute cafes with great ambiance in White Town for a lifetime of culinary experience.
  • Take this free walking tour of the White Town in Pondicherry, half of which is right around the Promenade.

Boutique and Heritage hotels in White Town like Le Dupleix, Palais de Mahe – CGH Earth, La Villa, Grand Hotel D’ Europe.

Or, a little further, a lot of mid range hotels like Hotel Surguru Pondicherry and Hotel Atithi.

We stayed in some of the later hotels on our visits. Because they have much bigger campus and ample parking when compares to the boutique hotels. Paradise Beach, Pondicherry – the secluded of the beaches in Pondicherry

A secluded beach in Pondicherry which is separated from the mainland by a narrow stream of backwaters, Paradise beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Pondicherry. On our first trip to Pondicherry, I was blown away with the fine white sand and the pristine blue waters that this beach offers. But that was a different story. Back then, this was one of the most beautiful beaches that I had so far seen in my life. Fast forward to today. After having visited the likes of Agonda Beach and Palolem Beach in Goa, Radhanagar Beach and Vijayanagar Beach on our trip to Andaman and even Benaulim beach in Goa, I would say, Paradise beach in Pondicherry is overall more hyped than it’s worth.

However, the one thing that this beach offers is less crowd and more tranquility. (Which go hand in hand, don’t they?). Perhaps because there is an entry fee and a boat ride to the beach. That not everyone will afford. And there are no vendors allowed. So, the beach is pretty clean and rush free.  However there is very little shade on the beach. So not the best experience to be here either when its very sunny or raining. You should definitely carry an umbrella when visiting this beach in Puducherry.
