Perched atop the Ooty – Coonoor road, Hotel Sagar Resort or La Montana is a gem of a place. This is where we stayed on our first trip to Ooty. We were surprisingly pleased by the awesome hospitality and amazing food here. But, the views beat it all. Each room has a big balcony in this resort. And from there, you get an unparalleled view of the valley surrounded by the Nilgiris. If you want a budget friendly place to stay in Ooty, this is your go to place. Also, it is located far from the main town, almost 8 – 10 km. So, if you want to venture to the town, either you can do that in your own vehicle or you can also book a cab from the front desk. Accord Highland Ooty
Yet another beautiful resort located far from the main town but right in the lap of nature is Accord Highland Ooty. We stayed here in 2021. And were very delighted with their premises. Particularly, the expansive lawn from where one gets uninterrupted views of the beautiful lush green surrounding mountains. Also, this hotel has all kind of rooms to offer. From standard delux rooms to villas with kitchenette. Thus, it has something for all kind of visitors. If you are wondering where to stay in Ooty to enjoy the best altitude, it is one of your best options. Since, it is located very near to the Dodabetta Peak – the highest peak in Ooty!

Sterling Fern Hills Ooty
Just 4km from the town of Ooty, Sterling Fern Hills provides one the best of both worlds. It is not very far from the town. At the same time, it is not located in a crowded setting. Also, this one provides for a nice play area, a family suite with kitchenette and an expansive food menu! Providing a perfect break for families with kids. We stayed here in 2020. We stayed at Destiny Farmstay in 2021. And we can’t describe the experience enough in words. The budget to stay here is moderately high. But if you can spare it for one or two nights, it’s going to be a lifetime experience. Destiny Farmstay is located around 30km from the main town of Ooty. But it seems like another world. At the same time, you can choose to do nothing at all. And just enjoy nature at it’s best. General Information on Visiting Ooty
- Best time to visit : We would say, all through the year. If you want to enjoy winter, visit Ooty in December – January. However, if you want to enjoy the monsoon clouds hanging low over your head, along with sudden bursts of rain, visit Ooty in the monsoon months. If you want to bask in the sun, then February – March is a really nice time and so is November. We have been to Ooty in almost every season now, after visiting here 4 times!
- How to reach Ooty: The closest major city to Ooty is Coimbatore which is very well connected to all the major cities of India. You can reach Ooty from Bangalore as well. Best transport option is the buses, privately hired cabs or self – drive to Ooty in your own vehicle. We have actually tried all these three means of communication. I guess I will have to write another time on the pros and cons of each!
- Places to see in and around Ooty : Some of the major places to see in Ooty include the Botanical Garden, Ooty Lake, Dolphin’s Nose, The local market, Rose Garden, Dodabetta Peak, Lamb’s Rock, 6th Mile, 9th Mile, Pykara Lake, Emerald Lake, Avalanche Lake, Deer Park, Chocolate Factory, Tea Factory & Gardens! Coonoor is also very close by and can be visited on a half day trip from Ooty. While here, don’t forget a ride on the heritage toy train!
- What to pack for your trip to Ooty: Pack any dress as long as you pair it with one jacket and one warm sweater or cardigan to layer up as required. At least the evenings tend to get pleasantly cold all through the year. And it can be chilli in the winter months of December and January.
