Ba Na Hills and Golden Hand Bridge, Vietnam: A Magical Getaway in the Clouds

Ba Na Hills is a hill station and resort located in the Trường Sơn Mountains, offering a unique blend of natural beauty, French colonial architecture, and family-friendly attractions. The highlight of Ba Na Hills is the Golden Hand Bridge. Which is a breathtaking pedestrian bridge held up by giant stone hands, seemingly lifting the walkway above the clouds. The entire Ba Na Hills complex includes a fantasy theme park, French Village, flower gardens, pagodas, and panoramic cable car rides. It’s a must-visit spot for couples, families, and photographers.

As I was planning my Vietnam trip itinerary, I almost dropped BaNa Hills from my list of places to visit in Vietnam. Because I read at a few places that it was overhyped. And not worth the price you had to pay to visit Ba Na hills. I bought the idea because Ba Na Hills and Golden Hand Bridge in particular have become too popular. They are like the iconic landmarks of Vietnam. And you will see them appear in almost all the blog posts, pictures, instagram shots in Vietnam. So it only made sense that they will not be worth the visit.

But thanks to my friend and family who insisted on visiting Ba Na Hills and Golden Hand Bridge. And when I finally happened to take this day trip to Ba Na Hills and Golden Hand Bridge from Da Nang in Vietnam, it turned out to be totally worth it. Wondering how? Read on to know more about Ba Na Hills and Golden Bridge. Look at our pictures in the blog post here. And you will find the answer.

Places to visit and things to do at Ba Na Hills and Golden Hand Bridge Vietnam

Let me start right from the entry of the Ba Na Hills. There are multiple cable cars that operate from the foothill all the way up to Ba Na Hills and Golden Hand Bridge. You can go to either first. And the two are interconnected with each other through cable car as well. But, before you even start, the cable car station at the base itself is nothing less than a theme park.

The cable car station at the base of Ba Na Hills and Golden Hand Bridge

Open and airy, with landscaped courtyards, cute souvenir shops and wooden bridges that will remind you of the bridges you get to see on a trip to Bhutan or the famous one we went to during our Lucerne trip. Anywhere you turn, there is beauty all around, well integrated with the modern escalators and sparkling clean hallways that will eventually lead you to the cable car.

The cable car ride up the Ba Na Hills

Once you embark on the journey up the Ba Na Hills boxed safely inside a cable car, it is altogether a different experience. Ever seen those animation movies with kids where the fairy glides over the out-of-this-world tropical jungles? Or those drone shots above the slopes of a mountain? Thats exactly how you feel as you glide over the tropical hill. With tall green trees beneath you.

And ever lasting expanse of the town of Da Nang and the coast beyond that stretching right in front of you like a painting framed on the wall called horizon.

But right when you think this is the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced in life, you glide right over a gushing waterfall !!

Then you start piercing through the clouds to reach the cable car station of Ba Na Hills – which emerges like a German castle from amidst the clouds!!

At the Ba Na Hills Da Nang

Once you arrive at Ba Na Hills, there’s a plethora of things that you can do and places that you do. Immerse yourself into the French architecture, walk the cobblestoned streets and discover European themed restaurants, souvenir shops, adventure and sports arenas and what not within the premises of Ba Na Hills. Some of the top ones include –

French Village

Step into a fairy tale with cobbled streets, gothic churches, quaint cafés, and castles — all inspired by medieval France. The village comes alive with music, performances, and seasonal festivals. We started from the left where we first reached the golden fountain area walking through the cobbled pathways.

In this area, there is a huge pub, a lot of fine dine and some food court style restaurants and eateries. Perhaps a place you should aim to arrive at by afternoon as you get hungry. Nevertheless, we had some icecreams and famous Vietnamese coffee here. And then we headed to the other side and arrived at the Fantasy Park.

Dining at Ba Na Hills

From street-style Vietnamese dishes to European cuisine at various restaurants there is an ever ending options to dine at the Ba Na Hills Vietnam. And no matter from which part of the world you come, you will surely find here something to your liking. These eateries are spread across all parts of the Ba Na Hills. So, where ever you be, food is never far away 🙂

Fantasy Park

A family-friendly indoor amusement park packed with fun rides, arcade games, 3D and 4D theaters, and a wax museum. After visiting the Fantasy park, we headed to the Le Jardin d’Amour.

Le Jardin d’Amour

A set of beautifully themed flower gardens, perfect for peaceful strolls and photo opportunities. Each garden tells its own story through design and sculpture. You can’t perhaps visit all the gardens as the area is simply huge. So, you can choose to spend time in the one you liked the most. Some of these gardens reminded me of the ones we saw on our trip to Ramoji Film City Hyderabad on our trip to Hyderabad last year. Next we visited the Giant Buddha and the Golden Hand Bridge.

Linh Ung Pagoda & Giant Buddha

Perched quietly in the hills, this serene pagoda features a 27-meter tall Buddha statue, offering a spiritual stop along your journey. From the Ba Na Hills main park, we took a 5 minutes cable car ride to the Golden Hand Bridge and from there visited the Giant Buddha.

Golden Hand Bridge (Cầu Vàng)

Undoubtedly the star attraction, this curved golden bridge is held up by two massive stone hands rising from the hillside, offering visitors a feeling of walking through the clouds. It was something, no one wanted to miss. Particularly our little one. As soon as we arrived at the cable car station of the Golden Hand Bridge, we could feel it’s vibe. You can directly exit onto the bridge from the cable car station. And walk along the bridge, touch the stone hands and fingers, soak in the surrounding views and finally reach the other side.

On the other side, there are lot more themed gardens, parks, landscaped places to click pictures, souvenir shops and eateries. There are also multiple country flags kept at the other end of the Golden Hand Bridge. You can hold one of these flags and click a picture with it.

After visiting the Golden Hand Bridge we returned back to the main park. Where we had a late lunch. And then we started back on our way to the base cable car station.

Conclusion

Overall we had a wonderful time at the Ba Na Hills and Golden Hand Bridge in Vietnam. And I highly recommend everyone to visit here. In fact, you should reach here as early as possible. So that you can cover maximum grounds when there is hardly any crowd around. And spend the whole day here. Instead of having one heavy meal, have lots of smaller snacks, meals and beverages throughout the day from different counters available all across. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan food options available as well, including a couple of Indian restaurants.

As my kids grow, they are now able to enjoy the places we visit. And some they enjoy so much that they are putting them back on their “revisit wishlist”. Legoland Dubai was the first destination to earn a place on this list. And Ba Na Hills is the second. I wish them lots more travel in their lives. Hope by the time they return there will be even more things to enjoy added onto the Ba Na Hills.

Best Time to Visit Ba Na Hills and Golden Hand Bridge

The best time to explore Ba Na Hills is during the dry season (March to September). Skies are clearer, making it ideal for sightseeing and photography, especially early in the day when fog blankets the mountains for a dreamy effect. If you happen to visit on a cloudy day, like we were lucky enough to, the experience will be far superior. With chilly winds, pleasantly cold weather and clouds hanging in low. If you are a regular on my blog, you know passing through the clouds is one of my most favourite experiences to have. And after such an encounter with clouds during my trip to Meghalaya, it was the second time I had such an experience!!
