Staying in Beach Huts in Goa

Beach Huts in Goa are one of the most popular stay options in Goa. While beach huts in South Goa definitely outnumber the beach huts in North Goa. But, the beach huts stay options are definitely sprawling all over goa. These range from luxurious beach huts in Goa to the most economical ones. While been to Goa twice before, we never stayed in Beach huts of Goa before. Rather we stayed in Resort Terra Paraiso (A 3 star property) & Beleza by the Beach (A 4 star property) on our previous visits to Goa. And Biera Mar Beach Resort on the current workcation trip to Goa. So, on the current trip, we decided to spend one night in Palolem, staying at a beach hut and share the experience with our readers.

Although there are luxurious beach Cottages in Goa as well. But the one we stayed in was an economical one. Thus, our experience will actually help you access how the economical or mid-budget beach huts in Goa are like.

Why we stayed in a beach hut in Palolem

Well, we did enquire a few beach huts in South Goa. Including the Agonda Serenity Beach Resort, Palolem Beach Resort, Oxygen Palolem Resort etc. And finally decided to stay at O3 beach resort, Palolem. The main reason being that we were driving from down south. We spent a day exploring Gokarna and then drove from there to Palolem. The driving duration from Gokarna to Palolem is just over one and half hours, which really suited us. Also, while on way to Palolem Beach Hut, we wanted to explore Galgibaga Beach as well. And last but not the least, Palolem seemed to be more happening compared to Agonda, which is more peaceful. And we did want to feel the “Goan Vibes” for the one night that we spent at Palolem Beach. So, overall given all the criteria, we zeroed down on a beach resort in Palolem.

We made an almost end moment booking. And the O3 beach resort cost us INR 2400/- for one night stay. (Only stay, no breakfast included). I am sure in off season or when booked in advance, it will cost even lesser.

How do the Beach Huts in Goa Look Like

If you are staying in a Palolem Beach Hut which is economical to mid range, then don’t expect too much from the resort. Mostly the rooms are basic. Very basic. Only big enough to hold a double bed. Some have attached bathroom. There are others that have common bathroom also. We stayed in one with attached bath.

The rooms are mostly made right over the sandy base. And they are made of wood or make-shift kind of material. But mostly those which cost 1500 and upwards come with AC. Some have power backup while others don’t. The one we stayed in had both AC & Power backup.

These beach cottages are made in natural surroundings. Actually the one we stayed in was constructed right between coconut grooves, right on the beach. The huts were standing right on the sand. And had coconut and palm trees in abundance, surrounding them.

Most of these beach huts don’t have any campus as such. And you get to park your vehicle on the street right besides or in front of your resort. But it seems to be perfectly safe to do so! As well as there are no security concerns as such inside the beach huts that we felt. However, it will be good to be cognisant of one’s belongings and not to leave anything valuable unlocked when you are away from your room.

Are the Beach Huts in Goa sea facing

Well, some are, others don’t. A “Beach Hut” doesn’t necessarily mean it will be facing the sea. So, do enquire explicitly with the resort or the hut owner in case you are planning to book one. And you are specific to get a beach front property.  Like the one we stayed at had both sea facing and sea side view huts. The beach facing rooms were on top of their restaurant, directly facing the sea. There were only two such room with O3 beach resort. And the rest were behind the restaurant, partial beach facing. Because as soon as you step on the verandah, you can get a glimpse of the beach.

However, there are many Beach Huts at Palolem that are sea facing. We realised it as we walked on the stretch of Palolem Beach. One after the other, there are continuous beach huts along the stretch of Palolem Beach. In fact, sometimes, it is difficult to say if two adjacent beach huts belong to the same or different owners. Facilities wise, they all looked very similar to O3 Beach Resort where we stayed. Basic , neat & clean and good for one night stay or a couple of nights stay.

Food at the Beach Huts in Goa

Most of the beach resorts at Palolem seem to have their own restaurants as well. And these restaurants double as beach shack. As they are directly facing the sea. Cost wise, we tried a few, and the prices seemed to be more or less the same. Although both taste and service was top notch, I must say! They have most of the food options available all through the day. In the morning, many of them serve breakfast combos – Indian, Continental, A fusion kind of combo etc.

Our Lunch at the beach shack in Goa

Come night and the atmosphere really charges up. Most of these beach shacks arrange tables and chairs right on the beach. And then candles are setup on all of these chairs. The setting will truly remind you of the canals of Venice, which are similarly lit at night by the light of numerous roadside restaurants and their candle light dinner options. But there is a major difference. That being the soothing sound of the crashing of waves against the sea just a few feet from you while you have your dinner at the beach shacks of Goa. Music plays and people enjoy almost till midnight. That is when the food scene finally comes to a halt – way past midnight. And next day morning, again from 7:00am onwards, breakfast gets available. So, basically nothing to complain there.

Planning for staying at one of the beach huts in Goa

When staying on one of the beach huts in Goa, you need to keep the following in mind:

  • When driving in your vehicle, do enquire about the parking scene. We found that one of the resorts that we were considering had parking almost 200 metres away from the resort. So, we had to drop it from our options.
  • If you intend to work from there or need internet access for any other reason, do enquire with them about speed.
  • You will have to rely on bottled drinking water. Maximum, you can carry a refill water bottle and ask them to refill with filter water at the restaurants.
  • Carry mosquito and insect repellants
  • Some of the resorts provide for mosquito nets. If you are more comfortable sleeping in one, you can opt rooms with nets.
  • Be careful of insects in the rooms and bathrooms, in case you are staying in a more eco friendly kind of beach huts or economical beach huts in Goa.
  • Carry your sunglasses, sunscreen lotion and a hat as chances are you will be spending most of your time on the beach rather than in the beach huts in Goa. And you will be returning to the beach cottage just for sleeping.

What to expect from Beach Huts in Goa

If you have opted for an economical beach hut, expect a comfortable stay. But don’t expect high class or luxury. Remember, the USP of the beach huts is accessibility to the beach. And in most cases, direct view of the beach from your room. Sun, sand and lots of delicious food & drink is what you find in abundance in the Beach Huts in Goa. We spent most of our time on the beach. First in the beach shack having lunch, then doing different activities on the beach in the evening, relaxing on the sun beds by the beach. And finally having a candle light dinner on the beach post dark. The only time that we really spent in our beach cottage was to freshen up and then finally sleep at night. So, it doesn’t make difference whether you go for a luxurious or an economical beach cottage or beach hut in Goa.
